Landscaping Grounds Manager (Finance)
The Grounds Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the property grounds and the upkeep of the pool. They coordinate with the grounds keeping staff to ensure that the grounds are kept safe, attractive, and functional.
Job Description
Principle duties and responsibilities (Essential Functions) include:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive grounds maintenance plan and schedule.
• Develop and implement routine cleaning, sanitation, testing, maintenance of the pool equipment, filters, heaters, and pumps.
• Coordinate with staff to maintain the property and ensure safety.
• Oversee landscape installation, maintenance, and upgrades to property landscape projects.
• Ensure that all ground equipment and materials are maintained and used in a safe and efficient manner.
• Hire, train, and supervise a team of grounds maintenance staff.
• Operate and maintain ground maintenance machinery, such as mowers, weed trimmers, and leaf blowers.
• Plant and maintain trees, shrubs, and plants as necessary.
• Inspect and repair fences, benches, and other structures on the grounds.
• Manage and maintain irrigation systems, weed and pest control.
• Administer pest and disease control programs throughout the property.
• Ensure that all ground maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with local and state regulations.
• Keep accurate records of grounds maintenance activities, including cost and materials used.
• Keep accurate records of chemical levels, maintenance activities, and other relevant data.
• Adhere to pool safety regulations and standards.
• Coordinate with contractors and vendors to ensure timely and quality services.
• Order, Maintain and Conduct monthly inventory of supplies for grounds and pool maintenance.
• Develop and manage a budget for the grounds department.
• Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets.
• Display daily professional, courteous, attentive, helpful, and positive attitude towards all guests, fellow employees, and managers.
• Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team to reach common goals.
• Perform other job duties as requested by supervisors/managers as other job duties may be assigned as needed.
• Understanding Sonesta's company and safety policies and maintain compliance with OSHA and the health department requirements.
Strategy and Planning:
• Prepare weekly work schedules in accordance with staffing guidelines and labor forecast and adjust schedules throughout the week to meet business demands.
• Analyze guest satisfaction data to develop and implement plans to achieve established goals related to guest satisfaction scores.
• Maintain proper inventories of linen, supplies and equipment as needed (including ordering and receiving).
Financial Management:
• Achieve budgeted revenues, control labor costs & expenses, and maximize profitability within the Grounds Department.
• Manage staffing levels to ensure that guest service, operational needs and financial objectives are met.
• Process payroll on a weekly basis ensuring all labor costs are within budget.
• Actively participate and advise in the budget and forecasting processes which support the overall objectives of the hotel.
Managing your Team:
• Attract, retain, and motivate your team to uphold company standards and practices.
• Interview, hire, train, and promote Grounds staff. Provide consistent feedback and recommend disciplinary action when appropriate.
• Conduct pre-shift meetings with staff and review all information pertinent to the day's business.
• Conduct regular department meetings with the Grounds team.
• Monitor, measure, and recognize performance of employees. Assist in the annual performance evaluations.
• Coach team by providing specific feedback to improve knowledge, skills and performance.
• Ensure employees are treated fairly and equitably. Handle employee issues in a professional and timely manner.
• Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team to reach common goals.

Qualifications and Skills:
• Knowledge of horticulture principles and practices including plant identification and care, soil management, pest management, and irrigation systems.
• Knowledge of routine pool chemical level testing, cleaning, equipment maintenance, repair procedures, and sanitation.
• Ability to operate and maintain various types of ground equipment, tools and machinery.
• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification if preferred.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Proven ability to manage staff and budgets effectively.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate and develop a team.
• Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy and collect accurate information to resolve conflicts.
• Knowledgeable about basic functions of Windows OS, MS Office, and POS.
• Ability to provide and maintain a valid driver's license as the position may require the operation of motorized and electric vehicles.
Education and Experience:
• Highschool diploma or GED required.
• At least three (3) years of experience in ground management or landscaping role.
• Experience in a hotel or a hospitality-related field preferred.
Work Environment:
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Most of the work takes place outdoors
Physical Demands:
• Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, pushing, and stooping. Climb ladders of various heights.
• Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand entire shift.
Expected Hours of Work:
• Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
• Must be flexible to work various days and various shifts of the week to include weekends, holidays, days, nights and overnight.
• Regular attendance in conformance with the standards which have been established by the hotel from time to time is essential to the successful performance of this position.
Travel:
• No travel required.

Pay Range
$75,600- $104,500 Base pay offered may vary depending on various factors including but not limited to job related knowledge, skills, and job specific/overall experience.
