DIetary Aide - On Call (Food Services)

Dietary Aide Job Description

General Purpose

The dietary aide's assignments are based on the needs of the shift. This position reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.

Essential Duties

• Learn food service routines within a short period.
• Set up meal trays.
• Strip down returned trays and start washing dishes.
• Assist with serving meals.
• Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of the shift.
• Monitor water temperatures during dishwashing cycles.
• Operate the dishwasher.
• Prepare nourishments and snacks.
• Sweep and mop the kitchen.
• Dispose of trash and garbage properly.
• Store groceries safely, orderly, and cleanly.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, assisting the cook or dietary supervisor as needed.
• Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
• Maintain floors by sweeping and mopping.
• Participate in the orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
• Work cooperatively and harmoniously with personnel across all departments.

Supervisory Requirements

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Language Skills

• Ability to read technical procedures.
• Ability to read and follow recipes.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.

Mathematical Skills

• Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

• Ability to solve practical problems.
• Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

• Must obtain and maintain a food handler's certificate.

Physical Demands

The essential functions of this position require the following physical abilities:

• Frequent standing and walking.
• Occasional sitting.
• Frequent reaching with hands and arms, pushing, and pulling.
• Frequent talking, hearing, tasting, and smelling.
• Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Good vision, including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
