KSTU, the E.W. Scripps FOX station in Salt Lake City, Utah, is searching for a talented and driven Station Manager/Director of Sales to lead our local operations. As the Station Manager/Director of Sales, you will report to the Regional VP/GM and oversee all aspects of the station's local market operations. This includes managing department heads, executing strategic initiatives, and serving as a functional leader. You will play a crucial role in driving the station's aggressive news programming, as well as serving as the home station for the popular Utah Hockey Club of the NHL. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of leading successful television station operations, with strong management, communication, and strategic planning skills.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Lead and implement the local media strategic plan, including the content & brand strategy, for assigned station.
Act as co-leader in generating ratings and revenue, including developing strategic plans and operational plans for the station's growth in multi-platform content delivery and revenue generation.
In partnership with the Regional VP/GM, support development of and ensure responsible financial stewardship to the station operating and capital expense budgets.
Continue to serve as the leader and subject matter expert for one of the station's functional areas, while overseeing a team of department head leaders of other functional areas.
Lead a culture consistent with Scripps values, with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and developing employees at all levels.
Responsible for all aspects of financial statements and ensuring station compliance with Scripps policies.
Enforcing all FCC, EEO, SOX and other appropriate rules and regulations.
Create sales budgets, project/forecast weekly station revenue so that annual revenue targets are achieved.
Manage all broadcast and digital inventory, set and adjust station rates to maximize revenue.
Manage the sale of advertising time to clients/agencies, involving local travel and national travel.
Meet with clients, advertisers and community organizations to maintain high visibility in the market.
Proactively create and manage enterprise or local station initiatives and new business projects.
Understand and interface with traffic system and personnel to efficiently manage airtime inventory. Approve all orders.
Supervise and provide regular feedback and training for direct reports with ultimate responsibility for all sales personnel.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
Generally, 10+ years of experience in related field preferred
Generally 5+ years of experience in a senior management position preferred
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Track record of proven leadership success in team effectiveness, audience or revenue growth, and budget management
Proven ability in inventory, pricing, political advertising/guidelines
Proven ability in agency and direct strategic account management, broadcast inventory and digital/video capabilities
Proven ability to cultivate innovation, risk-taking and leading change
Is an effective leader that demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for the company's mission
Proven ability to prepare and monitor station budgets; maintain compliance with FCC rules and regulations
Ability to organize, motivate and supervise staff
Skilled in communicating effectively verbally and in writing
Can establish cooperative working relationships both internally and externally
Strong analytical abilities; foresee potential pitfalls within a strategy while remaining positive about achieving the benefits
The desire for decision-making authority and the willingness to accept decision-making responsibility
Effective in a variety of formal presentation settings both inside and outside the organization
