Fitness Assistant (Project Management)

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Maintains a clean, organized, and safe Cardio Weight Room (CWR); ensures equipment is functioning properly and reports any maintenance concerns to the Fitness Supervisor. Greets and assists members and guests and creates a welcoming atmosphere. Conducts comprehensive participant orientations, ensuring all health screening forms, baseline assessments, and participant information is accurately completed. Provides education on facility policies, safe practices, and program options to help participants feel confident and supported. Assists participants with proper use of exercise equipment and demonstrates proper exercise technique to ensure the safety of participants. Oversees the maintenance of participant tracking logs, daily utilization logs, and records, ensuring all data is collected and reported accurately to support program analysis, outcomes tracking, and decision-making. Takes an active role in designing and enhancing fitness activities and supporting community-wide fitness events to increase engagement Assists with leading exercise classes as needed, assists with Growers Program. Leads efforts to track participant engagement in outreach programs, analyze participation data, and provide actionable insights to improve the success and reach of these programs. Maintains professional knowledge by attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences, conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. Actively contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required. Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma and one year experience in a fitness center or community health setting. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation including a motor vehicle check. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico drivers license and be insurable under the Pueblos insurance.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Certifications:
Knowledge of fitness, health and nutrition principles. Knowledge of motivational techniques and practices in physical fitness activities. Knowledge and skill using variety of exercise equipment. Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation, and basic arithmetic. Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs. Skill in making effective decisions in emergency situations. Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action. Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to become a Certified Fitness Trainer, Certified Group Fitness Instructor, and certified in CPR, First Aid, AED. Ability to be trained in fitness measurement.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; and sit. The employee occasionally is required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in an office, or a gym/fitness center with a moderate noise level where employee may be exposed to unpleasant odors, hazardous material and infectious disease. Work may also be performed outdoors where exposure to natural weather conditions and various dusts may occur while performing physical activities. Occasionally strenuous physical activity may be required. Situations where protective gloves and/or protective face shields are needed may occur. Work environment may include exposure to life and death situations. Evening and/or weekend work is required. There is frequent interaction with program participants and other Pueblo of Santa Ana employees.
